In a statement, Johnson notes that 1.8 million people are screened by TSA officers each day. Through October, 1,855 firearms were found in carry-on luggage of individuals about to board an aircraft. A shocking 1,471 of those firearms were loaded.

Even just within the last week, Johnson’s statement says that the TSA found 41 firearms, 16 stun guns, four replica grenades, a cane sword and a box cutter in luggage.

The previous record for firearms found in luggage in a single year was 1,813 in 2013. The total number of firearms found by TSA has increased every year since 2008.
