Vatican Creates Judicial Body to Handle Abuse Cases
Published at(ROME) — Pope has taken another step in the Vatican’s handling of priests who commit sexual abuse.
The Vatican is setting up a unit of experts to speed up the procedure for expelling sex abusers from the priesthood.
Pope Francis decided to create the new judicial body to deal with the backlog of serious crimes, including child sex abuse.
The pope has also defrocked several senior priests and a former archbishop for the crime. But victims rights groups point out that the pope and the Vatican have yet to prosecute any bishops for covering up for abusing priests by moving them around.
