Griner’s agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas, said that Griner sustained the cut when the man attempted to board the team bus after practice. Griner did not require stiches and did not need to go to the hospital.

Colas also stated that one of Griner’s teammates was stabbed by the man but was not injured because she was wearing two jackets.

Griner was named the WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year and was the No. 1 overall pick in 2013 by the Phoenix Mercury.

Griner averaged 15.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game last season as she helped lead the Mercury to the 2014 WNBA title.
