In 2012, Pete DeBoer, had New Jersey fans re-energized about Devils hockey with a surprising run to the Stanley Cup finals.  Friday, the team confirmed that it has fired DeBoer. Bob McKenzie of TSN was first to report the story.

The Devils have struggled in 2014, they are 12-17-7 and ranked 7th in the metropolitan division.  The Devils have also struggled in shootouts as they lost all twelve attempts last season and lost six of eight attempts this season.

Granted, all of the team’s struggles cannot be laid on the shoulders of DeBoer.  The team has not been the same since Zach Parise signed with the Minnesota Wild before the 2013 season and Ilya Kovalchuk returned to play hockey in Russia.

DeBoer was 114-93-41 in 3 1/2 seasons with New Jersey.
