According to police, Jackie Doucette, 15, went missing on Nov. 27 after she let the family cat out of the house.

“That’s what caused the friction between her and her parents, she let the cat out and the cat got away,” Chief John Hensley, of the Cheney Police Department in Cheney, Washington, told ABC News. “The thought is to avoid getting in trouble for not following instructions, she just ran off.”

Doucette has mental issues that could make her particularly vulnerable and that without her medication, Doucette’s decision-making ability could be impacted, Hensley said.

“Without the medication she can make poor choices,” Hensley said.

Police were using ATVs, foot patrols and canine patrols to search for the missing teen today, he said.

Hensley said Doucette had gone missing before but never for this long, and in the past had always been in touch with a close friend when she disappeared.

“But the friend hadn’t been in touch with her since Friday [before she left home],” Hensley said.

Doucette’s family created a Facebook page in the hopes of finding the teen.

Cheney police are asking anyone who may have seen her to call the police department at (509) 498-9235.

Doucette is described as being a white female 4 feet, 8 inches tall and 98 pounds. She was last seen in a pink jacket with a white hood, blue jeans and purple polka-dot shoes.
