Free Agent Reliever Jim Johnson Signs with Braves

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1417646607802iStockphoto/Thinkstock(ATLANTA) — The Atlanta Braves agreed to terms with free agent reliever Jim Johnson on a one-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday. The deal is for $1.6 million with the potential for Johnson to earn another $900,000 in performance bonuses, according to ESPN.

Johnson was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2001 draft. From 2006-2013, he saved 122 games and had an ERA of 3.11. Johnson led the American League in saves in 2012 and 2013.

Last season in 54 appearances with the Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers, Johnson went 5-2 with a 7.09 ERA.
