BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Idaho lawmakers have gathered in Boise to divvy up some of the most coveted spots in the Statehouse – committee chairmen positions.

The decisions can set the tone for the 2015 Legislative session because chairman holds the power to kill any bill that crosses his or her desk.

Republican Sen. Dean Mortimer of Idaho Falls will step up as the Senate Education Chairman. The position came open after longtime Chairman John Goedde lost to his opponent in the May GOP primary election.

Another switch up will take place on the Agricultural Affairs Committee. After unsuccessfully running for the open Senate majority caucus chair, Sen. Jim Rice will lead the agriculturally focused committee.
