According to CBP, the individual was crossing at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego, when record checks noted he should be considered armed and dangerous. CBP officers escorted him to a security office and conducted a search — during which they found heroin in his possession. The man then jumped over a desk and attacked two officers.

After multiple attempts to restrain the individual, one of the officers used an electronic control device to “[gain] control.”

“Several minutes later, the individual became unresponsive an a CBP Medical First Responder administered emergency medical aid,” the CBP press release said. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Four officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
