Marco Rubio Won’t Base 2016 Decision on Jeb Bush
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Sen. Marco Rubio said Tuesday that his decision about a potential presidential campaign in 2016 would not be based on Jeb Bush’s announcement that he would explore a potential run for the same position.
“Marco has a lot of respect for Governor Bush, and believes he would be a formidable candidate,” Rubio spokesman Alex Conant told ABC News. “However, Marco’s decision on whether to run for president or re-election will be based on where he can best achieve his agenda to restore the American Dream — not on who else might be running.”
Both Rubio and Bush have been talked about as potential 2016 candidates for quite a while. With Bush announcing that he was considering a run for president, Rubio will soon face a similar decision. If Rubio opts not to set his sights on the Oval Office, he could choose to run for re-election to the Senate in 2016.
