“Our city is in pain,” de Blasio wrote, in the wake of the shooting deaths of two New York Police Department officers over the weekend.

“Saturday’s killings were an attack on not just two of our finest men, but an attack on our democracy and our values,” the mayor added. “An attack on every single New Yorker.”

He also called on New Yorkers to “protect our police just as they protect us,” reminding New Yorkers to call 911 and report any threat against NYPD they may see or hear.

The mayor also echoed a call for “peaceful coexistance” by a member of the family of Officer Rafael Ramos, one of the officers killed Saturday.

“Our strength has always been our incredible diversity, and within that diversity a bond that unites us far more than it divides us,” de Blasio said.
