Penn State played in its first bowl game since 2011, Saturday after receiving a post season ban from the NCAA as a result of the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal.

Sam Ficken came through in the clutch for the Nittany Lions.  With 20 seconds remaining and Penn State trailing 24-21, Ficken nailed a 45 yard field goal to send the game into overtime.

Boston College scored on their opening possession when Tyler Murphy connected David Dudek for a 21 yard touchdown, but kicker Mike Knoll missed the extra point.

Ficken would again rise to the occasion. Christian Hackenburg found Kyle Carter for the tying score, giving Ficken the chance to kick the game winning point; he would.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better ending for my career,” Ficken said after the game.
