Pope: Christians Being ‘Driven Out of the Middle East’

gjohnstonphoto/iStock/Thinkstock(VATICAN CITY) — Pope Francis released a video message to Iraqi Christians on Saturday, thanking them for “bearing witness” to the suffering caused by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
“When I returned from my visit to Turkey,” the pope said, “I said that Christians are being driven out of the Middle East and undergoing great suffering.”
The message comes as thousands of Iraqis have been displaced by the spread of ISIS.
“It seems like they do not want the presence Christians in these places, but you are there giving witness to Christ,” the pope closed.
