Senate Confirms Appointment of Tony Blinken as Deputy Secretary of State
Published at(WASHINGTON) — The Senate confirmed Tony Blinken, President Obama’s deputy national security advisor, as deputy secretary of state on Tuesday, pushing through another Obama appointee before Republicans take control in January.
The Senate voted 55 to 38 in favor of Blinken’s appointment.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was among the Republicans opposed to Blinken’s confirmation, criticizing him for “abysmally ignorant” comments about Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.
Furthermore, McCain said, “This individual has actually been dangerous to America and to the young men and women who are serving it.”
