MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) – A northern Idaho couple accused of neglecting a 67-year-man in their care to such an extent he died of malnutrition or starvation will be tried separately.

The Lewiston Tribune reports that 2nd District Judge John R. Stegner on Wednesday agreed with prosecutors to have separate trials for 24-year-old Charles Wright and 21-year-old Lindsey Winter.

They’re charged with abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult, exploitation of a vulnerable adult and fraudulently obtaining welfare or public assistance. They’ve pleaded not guilty.

Lee O. Pohrman died in November 2013 at the Gritman Medical Center after earlier that day being taken from the residence of Wright and Winter. An autopsy listed malnutrition and starvation as the cause.

Wright’s trial is set for May 4 and Winter’s for May 18.
