UPS Expects to Handle Four Million Holiday Returns
Published at | Updated at(ATLANTA) — A record number of online shoppers kept UPS busy during the holiday season. But now that Christmas is over, the company is bracing for its next big task: handling returns and exchanges.
UPS expects customers will ship back more than 800,000 packages on Jan. 6, 2015, a day it calls National Returns Day.
“We have successfully completed two of three phases of the Peak holiday delivery season. Our Cyber Weekend and pre-Christmas performance helped retailers take advantage of holiday demand. We are now preparing for a surge in volume driven by Returns Week beginning next Monday,” Alan Gershenhorn, UPS executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said in a press release Friday.
When the first full week in January comes to a close, UPS anticipates it would have handled four million return packages in the U.S. alone.
