“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who await news on the passengers and crew who remain missing,” Earnest said Tuesday. He also discussed the assistance that the U.S. will provide to the Indonesian government, including the recent deployment of the U.S.S. Sampson. The U.S., Earnest said, “is ready to deploy another ship if needed.”

The two nations continue to work together to determine what additional resources may be needed. “The United States stands ready to provide additional assistance during this difficult time,” Earnest said.

Earlier Tuesday, ABC News learned that the U.S. government was preparing two dive teams and a P-8 Poseidon aircraft to be sent if requested. No such request had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
