Curry and NBC News jointly announced on Tuesday that she is leaving the network as a full-time employee after nearly 25 years. She is developing a new media venture, seeded by NBCUniversal, that will “focus on incubating and producing content of national and global importance with a multi-platform distribution approach.”

Curry, 58, said, “This is about reaching for the edge of the future in journalism, which we know is undergoing an irrevocable transition. I am excited about working to become a valuable link between traditional media and what is to come.”

Curry’s new arrangement with NBCUniversal will allow her to report on any platform or network, including NBC.

Curry joined NBC in 1990, eventually working her way up to the Today show co-anchor job alongside Matt Lauer in 2011. A year later, amid declining ratings and reports that there was tension between her and Lauer, she tearfully said goodbye to the show and was replaced by Savannah Guthrie. Since then, she’s made appearances on other NBC News programming.
