During his trip to Asia, the pope travelled to the eastern Philippines to comfort survivors of last year’s Typhoon Haiyan.

On Saturday, he had to cut his own trip short because of another approaching storm.

The pope did manage to celebrate mass in Tacloban wearing a yellow raincoat in the wind and pouring rain.

After the mass, the pope was scheduled to have lunch with some survivors of last year’s typhoon, which was the strongest storm ever recorded on land.

15 million people were affected by the storm, and about a million lost their homes.

Pope Francis apologized to the crowds for having to leave the eastern city early, saying “I am truly saddened, because I had something prepared especially for you.”
