Pace spent the previous 14 seasons working in the Saints’ front office, the last two serving as the director of player personnel. From 2007 to 2012, he was New Orleans’ director of pro scouting.

The Bears fired general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman in late December after they finished the 2014 season with a 5-11 record.

Pace will have to decide the future of starting quarterback Jay Cutler, who was benched late in the season because of poor play. He will also have to improve a defense that ranked 30th overall in the NFL.

The Bears have missed the postseason seven of the past eight seasons.
