Local authorities said that some of the passengers managed to get out of the bus alive, including those riding on the roof who jumped to safety.

One of the survivors said that the oil tanker was in the wrong lane and moving at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred.

About a minute after impact, the bus caught fire with flames moving quickly because of a natural gas cylinder that had been on the bus.

Many of those killed were burned beyond recognition.  The dead included many women and children.

Traffic accidents with massive casualties are a regular occurrence in Pakistan due to reckless drivers, poor infrastructure and vehicles that are badly maintained.

Last November in Sindh province, 57 people died when the bus they were riding collided with a coal truck.
