Elon Musk Donates $10 Million to Make Sure Robots Don’t Kill Us
Published at(NEW YORK) — If the thought of robots destroying humanity keeps you awake at night, you can sleep a little easier now. Billionaire Elon Musk wants to make sure the world will never face a robot uprising.
Musk, the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, tweeted Thursday he is donating $10 million to the Future of Life Institute for research on how to keep artificial intelligence safe.
He has previously expressed his concern about robots, saying artificial intelligence has the potential to be “more dangerous than nukes.”
In a tweet announcing the donation, Musk, 43, said it is “all fun and games” until something goes awry.
Musk joined physicist-cosmologist Stephen Hawking, who is among the high-profile people who signed an open letter earlier this week calling for artificial intelligence not just to be more capable, but also more beneficial to humanity moving forward.
