Facebook Continues Its Massive Adult Appeal

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Hands down, Facebook is the champ of social media in the U.S. with an estimated 71 percent of all adult Internet users having an account in 2014 with Mark Zuckerberg’s brainchild.

Based on a Pew Research Center survey of almost 1,600 people, that works out to 58 percent of all adults in the country on Facebook.

Pew also found that 56 percent of Facebook users are seniors, 65 and up.

Meanwhile, Facebook’s companion site, Instagram, is very popular with young adults, ages 18-29. Fifty-three percent have an account with the photo sharing social media site.

According to Pew, LinkedIn and Pinterest each had 28 percent of all adult Internet users last year while Twitter slipped to 36 percent among all adult users from 46 percent in 2013.
