Gators quarterback Treon Harris didn’t have his best game of the season, but he was good enough as he completed five of 11 passes for 123 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

With the Pirates closing in, Harris threw an 86-yard touchdown to Ahmad Fulwood to give Florida a 28-14 lead.

But arguably the story of the game was when Harris left the game in the third quarter with a leg injury. In came junior quarterback and former starter Jeff Driskel.

On Saturday, new Gators head coach Jim McElwain confirmed that Driskel has asked for and received his release from his scholarship.

“That’s up to him,” McElwain said on Driskel’s possible return. “We all have choices, and I’m not going to hold him hostage.”

Driskel went eight of 17 for 48 yards in what was likely his final game with the team.
