Gasoline Prices on Track to Dip Below $2 a Gallon Nationally
Published at(WASHINGTON) — A losing streak that lasts 116 consecutive days is nothing to write home about — but you won’t hear American motorists complaining.
Each day for nearly four months, the price of a gallon of gasoline has dropped, the longest streak of its kind in U.S. history.
With low demand for crude oil continuing because of overproduction, the Energy Department says the average price for a gallon of regular is now $2.14.
The last time gasoline prices were this low was the summer of 2008, right before the near-collapse of the global economy.
ABC’s Chief Economic and Business correspondent Rebecca Jarvis says if the current trend continues, as it’s expected to, prices at the pump could dip below $2 a gallon nationally by the weekend.
