Latest “Hunger Games” Sequel Becomes Highest-Grossing 2014 Movie
Published at(NEW YORK) — The latest film in The Hunger Games series has just become the highest-grossing movie to have been released in 2014.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, starring Jennifer Lawrence as the heroine Katniss Everdeen, has earned nearly $333.2 million at the domestic box office as of Wednesday. It’s now slightly ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy, which falls to number two in the rankings.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 opened in theaters days before the Thanksgiving holiday.
2014 is the second consecutive year for which a Hunger Games sequel was Hollywood’s highest-grossing movie. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire led the way for 2013.
If you haven’t yet seen The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and are waiting to watch it in the comfort of your own home, you’ll be able to purchase a digital copy on Feb. 17 or pick it up on DVD or Blu-ray on March 6.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2, the final film in the series, will hit theaters on Nov. 20.
