Salt Lake City, Utah — Leaders for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints held a rare news conference on Tuesday calling for a “balanced approach” when in comes to gay rights and religious freedom.

The church reiterated its support for some housing and job protections for gays and lesbians.  At the same time, it called for legal protections for believers who object to the behavior of others. The church believes it is against the law of God to have sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman.

Leaders at the conference on Tuesday stated, “We must all learn to live with others who do not share the same beliefs or values.”
