The Girls creator and star addressed those pesky engagement rumors that arose last week after she posted a photo of herself in her favorite vintage find of 2014.

Instead of noticing her jacket, fans picked up on the ring she seemed to be flaunting on her left hand.

Dunham and her friend and co-executive producer, Jenni Konner, explained to reporters Monday night at the the Girls season-four premiere that the “ring” was actually a stack of three friendship rings.

“When they announced that she was wearing an engagement ring, I was like, ‘Yeah, to me!'” Konner joked.

Added Dunham: “Yeah, we’re engaged to continue to work together for the rest of my life.”

Dunham went on to say she wasn’t sure why that particular ring caught everyone’s attention.

“It’s funny, I have a ring that my boyfriend gave me that I wear on my right hand, and like, clearly nobody gives a s*** about…it’s like a diamond! And everybody was like, ‘Let’s ignore that diamond and focus on this stack of three rings,'” she said. “I definitely had a feeling, like, ‘Slow news day, dudes?'”

The news, however, managed to reach her rocker boyfriend’s family.

“He was, like, ‘My mom called asking if we were engaged?'” Dunham told reporters. “She was, like, on him. I also just want to say that if we were going to get engaged, we would be more creative than to do it on New Year’s Eve. You don’t want to be basic.”

For his part, Antonoff is not in a hurry either.

The Bleachers and fun. singer told ABC News’ Nightline that he and Dunham would be putting off marriage “till it’s legal for everyone.”

“That’s what I personally believe,” he said. “To me, it seems odd to get married especially when someone else can’t and I always believed, especially in my state, that it should be a country thing.”

Questions about their marital status is something Dunham has learned to take in stride, having made peace with being a celebrity.

“I realized early on that I was not going to be able to have a comfortable relationship with celebrity if I didn’t feel like I was using it to talk about things that were important to me,” she told Elle‘s fifth annual Women in TV issue. “It was always going to make me feel gross, for lack of a better word. I was like, ‘Oh, this attention is something I’m going to figure out how to use in a way that feels productive, healthy, and smart. And not just like as an excuse to collect handbags.'”

She paused.

“Although,” she told the magazine. “I love handbags.”
