MTV to Air Programming in Black and White for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Published at(NEW YORK) — MTV announced Sunday that it will air programming in black and white Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The decision is being called an expansion of the network’s “Look Different” anti-bias campaign. “Millenials believe strongly in fairness,” MTV President Stephen Friedman said in a statement, “but they can also find it difficult to talk openly about race — to be not simply ‘color blind’ but ‘color brave.” Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, MTV will air all programming in black and white for the first time in history.
On top of the black and white programming, each commercial block will feature personal reflections on race from music stars, politicians and other notable people.
“Our audience is looking for a way to bring the national conversation on race into their homes,” Friedman added. “This campaign will give them a forum to express true color bravery.”
