Published at(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) — Joe Paterno is the NCAA’s all-time winningest football coach once again as the NCAA agreed with Penn State to restore the 112 wins taken away following the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.
Also part of the agreement will have the university pay a $60 million fine to address child abuse be spent within Pennsylvania to resolve that lawsuit.
“We are not at all admitting that we didn’t have the authority to impose the penalties,” NCAA president Mark Emmert said.
“This was, in all ways, an extraordinary circumstance. We all hope that we never find ourselves in a position like this.”
The agreement added 111 wins back onto Paterno’s career record, and one victory they took away once Paterno left the school after the scandal.
With Paterno’s career-wins mark restored to 409, former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden now sits at second on the list at 357 wins once again.
