According to JetBlue Airlines’ Manager of Corporate Communications Rick Clark, flight 1295 was scheduled to depart New York at 9 p.m. bound for Austin, Texas. After being cleared for takeoff, the plane began to travel down the runway, only to see another plane cross the runway.

Caribbean Airways flight 526 was the second plane. The JetBlue pilots immediately acted to stop the plane, alerting the air control tower of the incident.

Clark said that the Caribbean Airways flight was not authorized to cross the runway at the time. The Federal Aviation Administration said the two planes were more than 2,800 feet apart at their closest point.
