Nintendo announced this week it is releasing a revamped 3DS XL handheld device that will have 3-D face tracking technology, even better graphics and shorter load times. The device also comes with a Near Field Communication chip that will enable gamers to interact with their Amiibo plastic figurines, bringing another layer to the gaming experience.

What may disappoint owners of the old Nintendo 3DS XL the most are the two new buttons and “C stick” control that allow games to be released exclusively for the new device, rendering the old one obsolete for certain games.

The first game exclusive to the new 3DS XL will be Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. The remake of the tremendously popular Wii game will launch on the new handheld device in April, according to Nintendo.

Among the features that make it different are a bonus mode that lets players check out 3-D models of the characters and listen to music from the game.

Nintendo is banking that die-hard fans will choose to upgrade to the device, so much in fact that the new 3DS XL doesn’t come with a power adapter since its compatible with old systems. The company said it was a cost-cutting measures designed to not charge gamers for a piece of hardware they may already own.

Adapters are available for purchase for as low as $9.95.

The new Nintendo 3DS XL launches in the United States on Feb. 13 at a suggested retail price of $199.99.
