Boyhood won Golden Globes last Sunday for best motion picture, drama and best supporting actress for Patricia Arquette.

“It just blows my mind. Like, we really didn’t even know if people would even accept this movie,” the actress said when asked if the film could be an Oscar contender.

However, she’s found that journalists have been writing about the drama in a “really personal, beautiful way.”

Boyhood was shot by director Richard Linklater over the course of 12 years, and though the project was supposed to be a secret during that time, Arquette says she and co-star Ethan Hawke openly discussed it.

She recalled, “People would glaze over and were not interested. I’d be like, ‘We’re working on this movie for 12 years.’ ‘Oh.’ ‘With Ethan Hawke, Richard Linklater.’ ‘What’s it about?’ ‘It’s about a boy growing up in a family.’ ‘Oh, well, good luck with that.'”
