With the recent death of his father, Gagne will sit out the rest of the season, leaving the rest of his career in doubt.

“The last month has been extremely difficult for me with my father being sick and his passing,” Gagne said in a statement released by the team. “To play in the NHL you have to be 100 percent mentally, emotionally and physically committed to the game. At this time I know that I cannot be close to those levels. The Bruins organization and my teammates have been great to my family and I during this time.”

Gagne is now considered a suspended player so that the Bruins can maintain a full roster.

The 34-year-old Gagne is in his first season with the Bruins, and it could be his last. He has three goals and one assist in 23 games this season.

Gagne is a former All-Star from his years with the Philadelphia Flyers, but he’s had trouble staying on the ice in recent years due to injuries. He’s played in over 60 games just once since the 2009-2010 season.
