Not only will Bulls point guard Derrick Rose be on the shelf indefinitely due to another knee injury, but Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane will miss the next 6-10 weeks with an upper-body injury.

Kane was cross checked in the lower back by Florida Panthers defenseman Alex Petrovic in the first period of their game on Tuesday.

This is a tough blow for the Blackhawks as Kane is tied with Jakub Voracek of the Flyers and Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals for the most points in the NHL at 64.

“I don’t think you can replace the things that he does with the puck, without the puck, the attention that he draws, but one of the strengths of the organization is depth,” Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp said. “You hear it all the time: When a player goes down, you need to step up and collectively fill those shoes. But you guys know as well as I do what kind of player Kaner is.”

Kane was attempting to be the first American-born player to win the Art Ross trophy, which goes to the player who leads the NHL in points.
