Chris Christie to Announce Teachers’ Union Partnership in NJ Budget Speech

Chris Christie will deliver his annual budget address in Trenton Tuesday afternoon, when he’ll announce a thawing of relations with a one-time bitter enemy, the New Jersey Education Association, the state’s largest teacher union.

Christie will say Tuesday afternoon that he is joining force with the group to fix the state’s pension system.

According to the governor’s office, Christie and the NJEA have been “working behind the scenes” to “find a sustainable, long-term solution to the pension problem.”

In an excerpt released ahead of the his speech, Christie will say, “I know we can get this done. We have proven time and again that even when we look like we’re not going to make it work and that politics and partisan interests have won, we flip the script.”
