Earnhardt, Hamlin Fail Post-Daytona Qualifying Inspections
Published at(DAYTONA, Fl.) — After qualifying time trials at Daytona International Speedway Sunday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Denny Hamlin will have to start at the back of the pack.
Both racers failed post-run inspections and will have to begin their qualifying races in the rear of the field this Thursday.
Earnhardt, Jr. tweeted after he was informed of the results: “Failed post tech after qualifying. 1/8 low left front. That’s a shame. The boys will figure out why. Makes the duels a lot more interesting.”
Last year’s Daytona 500 winner had qualified 10th, before height rulings negated his finish.
As for Hamlin, he is already guaranteed a spot in the Daytona 500. Six drivers are given an automatic berth into the Daytona 500 based on last season’s owners point standings; Hamlin finished third.
