Mason, 48, suffered a heart attack and successive congestive heart failure earlier this month.

Earlier this week, Mason’s son suggested that the 6’7″ native of Miami, Fl. was showing signs of improvement.

Mason played five seasons with the Knicks and was a key member of the 1994 four team that brought New York to the NBA Finals. As part of the team headlined by Patrick Ewing and John Starks, Mason won the NBA’s sixth-man during the 1994-1995 season.

A third round pick in 1988 out of Tennessee State, Mason was selected by the Portland Trailblazers. He would play 13 seasons in the NBA.
