Gregg Popovich Wins 1,000th Game as Spurs Head Coach

NBA via San Antonio Spurs(INDIANAPOLIS) — San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich further etched his name in the history books. On Monday night he won his 1,000th game with the team.
The Spurs rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the Indiana Pacers, 95-93.
“I’ve been here a long time and I’ve had good players. That’s the formula,” Popovich said. “Getting the players is difficult, but I’ve been fortunate to have good ones. The time, that’s the most important element. You have to be around for a while I guess.”
Only Phil Jackson and Pat Riley won 1,000 games faster than Popovich. Former Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan is the only other coach to win 1,000 with just one team.
“A thousand wins, that’s a lot of wins and I feel very lucky that I’ve been with him for a lot of them,” said point guard Tony Parker.
Popovich has a career record of 1,000-462. His .685 winning percentage is second all-time to Phil Jackson.
