UPDATE: Idaho Falls woman injured by train

  Published at

IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls woman suffered a foot injury after crawling under and being struck by a train Wednesday night.

The Idaho Falls Police Department reports the 18-year-old female was skateboarding home near East Anderson and North Holmes at 10:40 p.m. when she came upon a train blocking an intersection. Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said the train was switching tracks at the time.

The woman attempted to crawl underneath the train when it began moving. Crossing guards are in place at the intersection, but police officials were unsure if they were up or down when the woman made the attempt. As the train began to move the woman tried to get clear of the tracks, but her foot was caught by a wheel.

Police officials said the woman was able to free herself quickly and call 911. Police arrived at the scene and flagged down the train engineer to stop the locomotive. The woman was taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
