Jamie Dornan Says “Fifty Shades of Grey” Red Room Is ‘Impressive’

Focus Features(NEW YORK) — Jamie Dornan stars as billionaire sex fetishist Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey. In the film, Grey introduces college student Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson, to BDSM, along with his Red Room, in which he keeps his sex paraphernalia.

Dornan, who has said previously he spent lots of time in the room to prepare for the role, explained what we can expect when his character opens that door.

“The Red Room, it’s actually really beautiful and like, real impressive,” he said on Friday’s Live with Kelly and Michael. “And like, obviously Christian Grey’s got a lot of money and is able to make it the way he wants. But the attention to detail that we had in the film was really something.”

“And I get quite hyper sometimes, and I’m a bit of a fiddler and I play with stuff all the time. So for me that room, I was like…,” he continued, laughing.

The role of Christian Grey first went to Charlie Hunnam but the Sons of Anarchy star later turned it down, for fear he’d be typecast. Dornan then had his chance, though he says he never even saw the script when he auditioned for the role.

“The first time they sort of asked us, they requested that some actors make a tape for it and you know, put themselves on tape,” said Dornan. “But then they were being very secretive about the script and they wouldn’t release anything, as often is the case with big studio movies. So we did a scene from True Romance.”

Co-host Michael Strahan quipped in response, “Oh, because when I thought you said ‘[you] just put it on a tape’ I’m like, ‘What kinda tape they want?'”

Fifty Shades of Grey is in theaters now.
