According to a letter sent to the company by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a rubber seal at the back of the engine bay on certain vehicles could potentially stick to the hood, and then may fall into the engine bay. NHTSA notes that if the seal contacts parts of the exhaust system, the risk of a fire could increase significantly.

Owners of affected vehicles can receive four additional retaining clips to keep the rubber seal in place. The recall is expected to begin next month.

The recall affects vehicles from the 2013 to 2015 model years, including the Mercedes Benz CLS 400, CLS 550, CLS63, E350, E400, E400 hybrid, E550 and E63. In total, 147,224 vehicles are affected by the recall.
