Murder of Turkish Woman Sparks Debate over Death Penalty
Published at(ISTANBUL) — The recent murder of a young Turkish woman is sparking nationwide debate as to whether the country should reinstitute the death penalty.
Turkey abolished the death penalty in 2004. However, some are calling for its return amid demonstrations in remembrance of the victim, Ozgecan Aslan. The body of the 20-year-old was found burned and suffering from multiple stab wounds.
So far, there are three suspects in custody in connection with her killing.
