A new Apple ad voiced by the Gangs of New York director made its debut on Oscar Sunday.

The one minute spot follows students from the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts as they write, shoot, edit and score their short films.

“It’s the same for all you, all of us. Every step is a first step. Every brush stroke is a test. Every scene is a lesson. Every shot is a school,” Scorsese says in the commercial. “So let the learning continue.”

The Oscar winning filmmaker’s words of encouragement were excerpted from his 2014 speech to graduates at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

While tablet shipments are waning across the board, according to analysts, Apple’s advertisement underscores how the company views its tablets as more than just e-readers and another way to get online.

In conjunction with the Oscars commercial, Apple has also bundled together filmmaking apps in its app store as a way to potentially inspire everyone from the home video impresario to potentially the next wave of Oscar-caliber talent.
