Passengers Run onto LAX Tarmac After False Report

The miscommunication had to do with a man at the Japan Cargo building at LAX threatening to commit suicide. When police responded, the man then took off in his car but was eventually apprehended on the upper level roadway at Terminal 2, where he agreed to go to a hospital for observation.

However, in the interim, someone tweeted incorrectly that there was a man with a gun at the airport, which was erroneously announced over the PA system.

At that point, about 20 people who had been pre-screened for a flight took it upon themselves to go through emergency exits, where they wound up standing on the tarmac.

After some convincing, they were escorted back to the waiting area and normal operations soon resumed.
