Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. announced on Thursday that full-time and part-time associates at its U.S. stores will see their wage go up to $9 an hour by April. That’s $1.75 above the current federal minimum wage.

“Today, we announced comprehensive changes to our hiring, training, compensation and scheduling programs, as well as to our store management structure. These changes will give our U.S. associates the opportunity to earn higher pay and advance in their careers,” Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. President and CEO Doug McMillon said in a statement.

By Feb. 1, 2016, the Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said associates’ pay will bump up to at least $10 per hour.
