Grant spent six seasons at Tuscaloosa, and won at least 20 games in three of those seasons. He took them to three NIT Tournaments and one appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The team started this season strong, going 12-3, but they wound up finishing the season at 18-14.

“In this business we are ultimately judged by wins and losses on the court and, for a variety of reasons, we haven’t made satisfactory progress in that area,” Alabama athletic director Bill Battle said in a statement. “We have a great university, and an excellent athletics program that has expectations for all of our teams to meet the highest standards in competition, in the classroom and in the community.

Alabama plays Illinois on Tuesday in the first round of the NIT Tournament, but no interim coach has been named yet.

Overall, Grant went 117-85 as Alabama’s head coach.
