Avalanche Lose MacKinnon To Broken Foot
Published at(DENVER, Co.) — The Colorado Avalanche will be without one of the NHL’s most promising young goal scorers potentially for the rest of the regular season.
Nathan MacKinnon will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks with a broken foot, according to coach Patrick Roy.
“Obviously, it’s never good news when you’re losing a player like Nate, especially at a key moment in our season,” Roy said.”
Through 64 games this season, Mackinnon has 14 goals and 24 assists.
MacKinnon, 19, recorded his first career hat-trick on Feb. 22 as he helped lead the Avalanche to a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ironically, it may have been during that game that he suffered the fracture when he took a puck to the foot.
The Avalanche are currently 12th in the Western Conference, nine points behind the eighth seeded Winnipeg Jets. Unless the team is able to rally in the final weeks of the regular season, fans and team alike will have to wait until next year to watch the electric sniper.
