The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2 will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the siblings behind the blockbuster sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and its about-to-shoot third installment, Captain America: Civil War.

While Marvel is still mum, the THR story confirms an earlier scoop from the fan site Badass Digest, which suggests the Russo brothers were a logical choice: not only did their Winter Soldier make nearly $715 million, the events of Civil War reportedly play directly into the events of the Infinity War films.

Civil War sees some of Marvel’s most famous heroes squaring off against each other in two opposing factions regarding superhero registration with the government: Tony Stark/Iron Man is for it, and Steve Rogers/Captain America is staunchly against. The battle both philosophically and physically leaves The Avengers shattered and scattered. The film, the large cast of which includes Chris Evans as Cap, Robert Downey Jr. as Stark, Anthony Mackey as Falcon, and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, is slated for a May 6, 2016 debut.

The plots of the Infinity movies, however, are expected to reunite heroes from both the Avengers films and from Guardians of the Galaxy. Both Infinity War movies will be shot simultaneously, but will be released in May 2018, and May 2019, respectively.
