Chile Volcano Eruption Sends Lava Shooting into the Sky

iStock/Thinkstock(VILLARRICA, Chile) — Chile’s Villarrica volcano erupted overnight, sending lava shooting into the night sky.

The amazing display was visible from miles away.

Villarrica is one of Chile’s most active volcanoes, with increased activity reported in the past month.

Residents in nearby communities were evacuated Monday night due to the eruption, and government officials raised the alert status to red.
