Community leaders at the vigil attended by 50 people condemned the shooting. Traci Blackmon with Christ the King United Church of Christ promised supporters, “We will not be derailed in the pursuit of justice by anybody or anything that wants to get in our way.”

Later, about 100 to 150 people gathered outside the Ferguson Police Department as they had a night earlier while members of the St. Louis County Police and Missouri Highway Patrol stood behind a concrete barrier. Despite protests, there was no violence.

This was in contrast to Wednesday night when police in riot gear formed a human barrier, sometimes tangling with protesters who became more vocal and animated in their demands that Ferguson dissolves it police department following a Justice Department report that claimed the police department was allegedly systematically discriminatory against the black community.

The scene eventually erupted into chaos when the two cops suffered gunshots wounds, neither of which turned out to be life-threatening.
